About the frames...
All frames are hand cut, joined and glazed right here in the studio, on industry leading machinery (a Morso mitre guillotine from Denmark and Cassese cs90 underpinner from France). This results in the highest quality and most reliable of cuts and joins. All mounts are cut on a Keencut Futura mount cutter.
I hold a small stock of the most popular frame moulds here, but have many samples of all the frames available.
There is a variety of glazes available depending on your requirements and budget.
The standard float glass or 'normal glass' is a great option and is what is usually used in most standard frames.
Artglass is the next grade up. It is less reflective, UV protecting and offers a truer colour rendering than a standard glass.
For a real top end finish to those extra special pieces there is Tru Vue Museum Glass. This is the best of the best, virtually eliminating reflections, up to 99% UV protection, optimal light transmission, easy cleaning and, at 2.5mm thick, is a stronger glass than others. This is not kept as stock so will have to be ordered at an additional cost.
Payment can be made with cash or card (excluding AMEX) upon collection of your artwork.
...About the framer
My name is Alex, I have lived in Girton my whole life and spent much of it in and around the art world. An early interest sparked by an artistic mother who's own paintings, and enthusiasm for that of others, encouraged me to use art as the guiding force to my own academic studies. I gained several qualifications through various schools and colleges, all the way up to degree level when I graduated in Scientific and Natural History Illustration in 2009. I have also received training in picture framing and sign writing.
My hobbies are all things music and sports, from boxing training to banjo playing.
I now spend my days working for the Royal Mail and my evenings making picture frames and training for endless adventures.
Setting up this picture framing studio is a new venture but in familiar territory. I have vast experience of picture framing from the customers point of view, having had many of my own works and purchases professionally framed. Now I am using this experience, as well as newly learned skills, to bring a quality picture framing service to Girton and the surrounding area.
Some of my own work is displayed below...
